This is the general program for Canadian permanent residency. The program is a competitive points-based system. Points are earned depending on age, education, work experience, and proficiency in English and/or French. Candidates can apply from all around the world by submitting their professional profile and receiving a personal score. The Canadian government selects the applicants with the highest scores for permanent residency.

Studying in Canada at the post-secondary level gives immigrants several advantages. Besides gaining up-to-date industry knowledge, international students can receive a post graduation work permit to accumulate work experience in Canada and apply for permanent residency. International students can come to Canada with their families and their spouses can work while they study.

WORK PERMIT
Obtaining an authorization to work in Canada is not a simple process. Most programs require a job offer from a Canadian employer, and in some cases, the employer must prove to the Canadian government that they cannot find Canadian citizens or permanent residents to do the job. However, citizens of countries with free trade agreements or people who are fluent in French may be exempt from this requirement. There are also a few programs that can give candidates an open work permit based on their age and nationality.

PROVINCIAL NOMINATION
Each province has designed special immigration programs based on their economic needs. At North Horizon Immigration, we work with programs in the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario. Some of these programs require a job offer while others do not. Provincial Nomination Programs can be a great alternative for professionals who cannot compete in the Express Entry point system due to their age.
